Pinhead Oatmeal or Steel Cut Oats are considered the oldest and most traditional types of oatmeal. They are made from whole grains, with only the outer husk removed before the groats are cut into pieces. When cooked, Pinhead oatmeal produces a hearty and nutty porridge with a robust flavour. It is a common practice to soak the oatmeal overnight. Pinhead is also an excellent option for enhancing the texture and nutritional value of soups, stews, and haggis. It can be used as a topping for pies, puddings, and crumbles, or as a coating for fish and meat before cooking.

Amazing product! My husband and I tried pinhead oat for the first time and I think we will stick to this for our rest of our lives. They are so poppy and fun to eat. I personally was not fan of oatmeal before and it changed me. Of course it has lots of nutrition and good to help local business.

The pinhead oats I could find in local supermarkets were limited to a small, all be it nicely presented, tin can containing approximately 300g. It just wasn’t cutting it. A quick search found a good sized bag of Scottish oats that turned out to be a very nice low waste option. I now have plenty for porridge and experiments with crumbles, stews and stuffing. Life is good.
